Tinubu: NIN-SIM Linkage Has Reduced Fraud, Boosted National Security

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday highlighted the positive impact of linking the National Identification Number (NIN) with SIM cards, stressing that the initiative has helped curb fraud and strengthen Nigeria’s national security.

Speaking at the 2025 National Day of Identity organised by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in Abuja, Tinubu—represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume—praised the collaboration between NIMC and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

> “Working with the NCC, NIMC has enforced the NIN-SIM linkage, which has significantly reduced fraud and enhanced national security,” the President stated.

Tinubu underscored the importance of identity management, noting that identity is no longer just a record but a powerful tool that shapes governance and development.

He described it as:

The foundation of citizenship

The gateway to opportunity

The anchor for national security

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening identity systems in Nigeria, ensuring that every citizen and resident can be uniquely identified for better access to services and improved safety across the nation.
