Thailand’s Constitutional Court has removed Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra from office after finding her guilty of an ethics violation.
The ruling comes after a leaked phone call in June revealed Shinawatra addressing Cambodia’s leader Hun Sen as “uncle” during discussions about a border dispute. That conflict escalated into a deadly four-day clash, drawing sharp criticism at home.
With this decision, Paetongtarn becomes the fifth Thai leader since 2008 to be dismissed by the Constitutional Court.
The country’s Deputy Prime Minister will step in as acting leader until a new parliamentary vote is held to choose her successor.
The development marks another turbulent chapter in Thailand’s political landscape, where courts and military interventions have repeatedly reshaped leadership in recent decades.
