A new book about the Royal Family has revealed a shocking and deeply personal story from Queen Camilla’s teenage years. According to Courtiers, written by Valentine Low, former Royal Editor of The Times, Queen Camilla was the victim of an attempted indecent assault when she was just 16 or 17 years old.
The incident took place on a train bound for Paddington Station in London. When a man touched her inappropriately, the young Camilla remembered the advice her mother had once given her: if something like that ever happened, take off your shoe and use it as a weapon. Without hesitation, she struck the man with her shoe.
On arrival at Paddington, Camilla reported the assault to station staff, and the man was arrested.
Valentine Low also noted that Camilla later shared this story in 2008 with Boris Johnson, who was then the Mayor of London.
Today, Queen Camilla is known for her tireless work in championing victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and rape. Her personal experience sheds light on why she has remained such a committed advocate in this area.
