The 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has faulted President Bola Tinubu’s decision to embark on yet another vacation abroad, barely a week after returning from an official trip.
The Presidency announced on Thursday that Tinubu had commenced a 10-day vacation, marking the start of his 2025 annual leave. The President had only just returned to Nigeria after spending two weeks on official engagements in Japan and Brazil.
Reacting on Friday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Obi condemned what he described as President Tinubu’s “penchant for foreign trips,” stressing that it sends the wrong signal at a time when Nigerians are facing pressing socio-economic challenges.
While Obi did not dismiss the President’s right to rest, he questioned the frequency and timing of the trips, noting that leadership requires presence, accountability, and sensitivity to the struggles of citizens.
The former Anambra governor has consistently criticized the Tinubu administration over governance style, economic policies, and the welfare of Nigerians, positioning himself as a voice of opposition and accountability.
President Tinubu’s trip has already sparked mixed reactions across the country, with some defending his right to take annual leave, while others argue that his frequent travels reflect poorly on the government’s priorities.
