Ondo Police Arrest Fake Army Colonel Over ₦1.37m Job Scam

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man who allegedly posed as a senior military officer and defrauded unsuspecting victims of over ₦1.3 million in a bogus employment racket.

In a statement on Sunday titled “Ondo Police Command Arrest Fake Army Colonel Over ₦1.37m Employment Scam”, the command confirmed the arrest of Abdullahi Saliu, who had been parading himself as a Colonel in the Nigerian Army.

According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olushola, the suspect was apprehended at Top Quality Hotel where he operated. Police said he deceitfully lured two victims, Oshoade Janet and Daisi Remilekun Joy, under the pretext of securing jobs for their sons in the Nigeria Customs Service and Nigeria Immigration Service.

Saliu reportedly obtained a total of ₦1,377,000, which he later converted to his personal use.

A Serial Fraudster Across States

Investigations revealed that the suspect’s fraudulent activities extended beyond Ondo, with victims traced to Edo, Delta, Kogi, and Ondo States. Authorities described him as a notorious job racketeer who specialized in impersonating senior officers of various security agencies.

> “He has long been on the command’s list as a notorious job racketeer, known for impersonating senior officers of different security agencies,” the police statement read.



The police assured the public that Saliu will be prosecuted and warned citizens to be wary of individuals offering employment opportunities in exchange for money.
