Nigeria’s Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has raised concerns over the nation’s mounting debt profile, describing it as alarming.
The Speaker clarified that his call was not against borrowing itself, but against reckless borrowing without accountability and proper oversight. According to him, loans should translate into tangible development such as better roads, schools, hospitals, and innovations that improve the lives of Nigerians.
He stressed the need for transparency and responsible management of borrowed funds, warning that unchecked debt could undermine Nigeria’s economic stability and the well-being of future generations.
