Cooking Gas Prices Drop by 17.4% in August – NBS Report

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has announced a significant decline in the average retail price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), popularly known as cooking gas, across Nigeria.

According to the latest NBS report, the average cost of refilling a 12.5kg cylinder of cooking gas fell by 17.4% month-on-month, dropping from ₦14,375 in July 2025 to ₦11,875 in August 2025.

On a year-on-year basis, prices also saw a sharp decline of 16.7%, compared to ₦14,261.57 recorded in August 2024.

📉 Current Market Prices

At filling stations and depots across major Nigerian cities, the price per kilogram currently hovers between ₦950 and ₦1,020, depending on location.

This comes just a month after a July NBS report indicated a smaller decline in gas prices, suggesting that the market is now experiencing a more noticeable downward trend.

🔎 What It Means for Households

The drop in prices will be a relief to households already battling high living costs. However, industry analysts caution that fluctuations in global energy markets and local supply factors could still influence prices in the months ahead.
