China has unveiled an array of new weapons in a massive military parade — a display many observers interpret as a direct message to the United States and its allies.
President Xi Jinping hosted more than 20 foreign heads of state at the event, including Russia’s Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, both of whom depend heavily on Beijing for economic and diplomatic support.
