The Abia State Government has dismissed six officers of the Ministry of Justice after uncovering irregularities in the state’s payroll system.
According to a statement released on Thursday by the Chairman of the Abia State Civil Service Commission, Eno Eze, the officers were found guilty of manipulating salary records to receive excess payments.
The affected civil servants include:
A Principal Accountant (SGL 12)
A Senior Accountant (SGL 10)
A Chief Executive Officer (Accounts – SGL 14)
An Assistant Chief Executive Officer (Accounts – SGL 13)
A Principal Executive Officer (Accounts – SGL 12)
A Senior Executive Officer (General Duties – SGL 09)
Eze explained that the disciplinary action followed a thorough internal audit and administrative inquiry. The investigation reviewed financial documents and interrogated the officers, ultimately concluding that they had “knowingly benefitted from irregular salary payments to the detriment of the state.”
The government also revealed that Governor Alex Otti has ordered a separate probe into the activities of the payroll committee to ensure complete accountability and prevent future abuse.
> “The dismissals demonstrate this administration’s commitment to transparency and zero tolerance for corruption in public service,” the statement read.
The move is part of ongoing reforms by the Abia State Government to sanitize the civil service, improve efficiency, and block financial leakages.
